Creating a memorable presentation that leaves a lasting impression is something we all strive for, especially in environments where corporate executives are time poor and easily distracted. In this blog post, we’re going to look at some ways to prepare for the big moment and deliver it with ease.
First of all, a client-focused presentation isn’t just a sales one; clients may be internal stakeholders as well as external customers, in fact your team is often your client.
Presentations are stories to be told; they need a beginning, middle and an end so you take the audience on your journey but it’s the marriage of preparation and engaging delivery that is really essential to master.
At EDP we have three tips to share with you about presenting with impact:
1. Establish Purpose
You know the subject of the presentation but before you can continue – what is its true purpose? What do you want the client to do, act or think differently about as a result of your presentation? Be clear on this so you can make the most of your time.
2. An Engaging Aim
Now, what are you going to tell the client? What’s in it for them? Re-work your purpose into an engaging aim with inclusive language that also shows you have personality and insight. For example ‘I want to share with you our project status so that we can discuss actions to ensure its successful delivery’ ’ is far better than ‘I want to give you a project update’.
3. Build the Story
Construct the agenda, and remember that this is a story telling exercise, you need to keep the audience with you at all times. Ideally, about 2 to 4 main sections work best, the first of which starts by laying the groundwork and illustration the issues, challenges and circumstances of your audience. Once you’ve set the scene and demonstrated your empathy and understanding, you can now put the information that serves your purpose into this client-focused story line.
